Drew Rosenhaus emails NFL teams that former Vikes LT Bryant McKinnie seeking $2.5M for 2011, plus "reasonable incentives." He was set to make roughly twice that for Vikes and was released for waning productivity, weight and contract reasons. Several teams need a tackle.

For discussions purposes... What would you think about the Cowboys bringing him in?

We don't NEED a tackle but what if he would be open to playing guard? OR, better yet, we slide Free to LG and plug McKinnie (assuming he's fit and in shape) at LT. Sliding Kosier over to RG to team with Tyron Smith.

----LT------LG--------C-------RG-------RT
McKinne - Free - Gurode - Kosier - Smith

IMO, that significantly improves our weak OLine.

if we want to shore up our line (which Jerral doesn't) we'd go after Waters.

Yea, I'd prefer Waters too... BUT I figure this would be something different to talk about rather than everyone bitching and bringing up Waters name in every thread.

And Doug Free is wons better a tackle at this point that McFattie, on top of the fact that Free at guard is moving him to a position where he woulnt be as good as he is at LT

What you want to do would vastly weaken the OL, not make it better

Jerry likes what we have, he isn't going to get another OL and that is final!

Hell no. I'd have McKinnie at guard before having him at LT over Free.

See, I've always liked McKinnie... as a player. Off the field he's a knuckle head.

I think, and as I said in my earlier post, if he's in football shape and has his weight under control, he could be a very good football player again. This is a once pro bowl player we're talking about at 31 yrs old.

On a one year deal I don't see the harm in it. Especially if its making our team better. And again, that depends on the shape he's in.

As far as Free moving to LG and somehow becoming a lesser player... I don't buy it. The only thing I would worry about there would be his strength to battle inside with bigger DTs. Other than that I think he has the potential to be a lot more versatile than just LT to RT.

Our problem with the offensive line is the guard position.

The only way I could see signing McKinne would be for depth purposes, but that interferes with the progression of the young guys.

I'd like to see what Sam Young can do for us. Let's play these younger guys to see if they're worthy of being on this team or not.

I like the idea of getting younger on the line.
