OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A simple route along the west side of Olympia became a ride from hell Tuesday afternoon.

Surveillance video from the Intercity Transit bus shows a horrific attack on a driver after a confrontation and yelling turned into a beatdown.

The video shows a man swearing and harassing passengers, which drew the attention of the driver.

"I told you once. I'm not gonna tell you again," the driver said to the man, warning him to tone down his language or else he would be thrown off the bus.

Shortly afterward, the driver pulled the bus over and went to the back of the bus to get the man to leave.

"If you hit me in the face, we will fight to the death," the man said to the driver.

The driver continued to tell the man to leave and he came close, standing right next to the open door. But the man would not leave and the driver eventually tried to shove him out.

The man then began to pummel the driver, hitting him more than two dozen times. One passenger tried to pull the man off but the man paused only long enough to mock the driver.

"You bleeding? Is that real blood? Let me taste it," he said.

The man eventually left the bus and the passengers and the driver called 911. The driver went to the hospital. He was treated for broken bones in his face and released Tuesday night.

Intercity Transit's Kris Fransen said they haven't had something like Tuesday's beating happen for years.

"These incidents, I'm very happy to report, are very unusual," he said. "Our drivers are very well trained in self-defense. They are trained how to take action to protect themselves and our passengers."

Olympia police say they used the video to identify the attacker at the downtown transit station. The man, identified as 24-year-old Kiel Duggins, was arrested on charges of third degree assault.

Prosecutors argued on Wednesday that Duggins was a threat to the community, and the judge agreed. His bail was set $20,000, and he remains jailed

Meh. Driver initiated the physical confrontation.

Instead of standing there arguing like that, just call the cops and let them escort the guy off the bus.

Also, learn how to defend yourself, pussy bus driver.

If he paid attention in school maybe he would not be a bus driver.

BTW...all those guys, bus driver, cabbies, etc. should all have a gun. No way I would ever do that job without serious protection. It may be different in NY or other large cities, but in the Midwest the only folks using taxpayer subsidized transportation are the lowest of the low.
