SAN ANTONIO -- The Cowboys’ draft class of 2009 took another hit when the Cowboys informed Robert Brewster that he would be cut.

The Cowboys, according to sources, informed Marion Barber, Roy Williams and Leonard Davis of those moves on Tuesday as well.

Brewster’s departure leaves Stephen McGee (fourth), Victor Butler (fourth), Brandon Williams (fourth), David Buehler (fifth), John Phillips (sixth) and Manny Johnson (seventh) from the 12-player class.

Within the last 12 months the Cowboys also cut second rounder Jason Williams, fifth rounder Mike Hamlin and sixth rounder Stephen Hodge, while also cutting and re-signing Brewster and Johnson to the practice squad at different points. They had already cut DeAngelo Smith and Mike Mickens in 2009.

Brewster, a project to begin with out of Ball State, missed his rookie season because of a torn pectoral muscle. He started a preseason game at right tackle last year but struggled with his conditioning and never took hold of a spot.

The Cowboys also informed linebacker Kelvin Smith and guard Travis Bright, who they re-signed in January to futures contracts after spending the 2010 season on the practice squad, they will be cut. Bright had been contemplating retirement and did not take part in workouts with his teammates in the offseason.

Were these cap moves, or just cutting talentless hacks from the roster?

They had no cap impact, didnt count towards the top 51 because they were signed to futures contracts last Jan

I dont think either had a prayer of making the active roster this yr.

Brewster was an out of shape turd without a true position from the get go. WTH or whatever scout hyped this guy up to be worthy of a 3rd round pick? 2009 was the abomination of all drafts. The Roy trade and Jason Williams and Brewster as our first picks................wow.

2009 draft looks like one of the worst ever especially considering the 1st, 3rd, and 6th we gave up to get Roy. Our top two picks, Jason Williams and Robert Brewster, didnt make 3 seasons with us. 12 draft picks, 5 have been cut, 1 has never been healthy. Grade F at the time for that draft, now they get a Z.

Cue dbair and other Jerry apologists now....

I'm glad Bright is gone, just for the fact that people can no longer pin their hopes on him anymore.

You have to admit... when we signed him, his future seemed..... bright.

Thanks. I'm here all week. Try the veal.
