Fresh off a victory over Rex Ryan and the New York Jets, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady mentioned during a Monday radio interview that he's already moving his focus to a defense that is coached by another Ryan.
The Patriots host the Cowboys this Sunday and Brady made note of that during a lengthy response to a question about his increased seriousness off the field.
There's a lot that goes into every week," Brady told The Dennis & Callahan Show on WEEI in Boston. "There's a lot of intensity that we bring to practice, to the games and sometimes you're just tired. Sometimes you don't have the energy to put on a happy face every day. It's an important week. We were getting to work. There's a lot of pressure from the time the Oakland game ended. It's a six-hour flight home. You get to bed at four or five in the morning, six in the morning, like we did. And then it's a dead-sprint until the next game.
"Sometimes you're a little out of gas and you've got to conserve your energy. At the end of yesterday's game, I was tired. I was tired. Look, it's a big opponent. We put a lot into it. There's a lot of emotional energy that's expended. I'm glad we won. I'm glad the week's over. And now we can move on to another opponent that creates and gives us a lot of different challenges also."
It could have been just the standard answer Brady would've given even if the Pats were preparing to play the winless Colts, Rams or Dolphins. After all, we are talking about Tom Brady, a guy that gives as many cliches as anyone in football.
However, he also could be identifying that it's another week against a Ryan defense that presents its own set of challenges. Cowboys reserve cornerback Frank Walker, who has played for both Rob and Rex Ryan, says that Rob's system is slightly more complex.
