This mock is based off of the following:

  • We beat Washington and pick mid-20s.
  • The team is satisfied with what Jeremy Parnell has shown, to where they don't feel OT is a top of the list need.
  • Anthony Spencer is franchised
  • Team believes Mackenzie Bernadeu will be our next center.

1st - Margus Hunt, DE, SMU
You might think this is a reach, but I'm basing it off of THIS. Remember, we have a very reactionary GM.

2nd - Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
Can't stress enough how much of a need I think RB is for this team. Lacy is a bigger back who has great leg drive and has shown big play potential despite his size. Since we lack a dominant line, we need physical runners who can break tackles and deliver blows. Would do well during Murrays mid-season vacations/injuries.

3rd - Brandon Williams, NT, Missouri Southern State
Quick, penetrating NT with good size. Much needed youth injection to the interior of our line. Free's Lissemore and even Ratliff if he's still on the team to go outside.

4th - Rick Wagner, OT, Wisconsin
Open competition with Jeremy Parnell for the starting RT position heading into training camp.

5th - Travis Bond, OG, UNC
blah blah blah

6th - Josh Johnson, CB, Purdue

First off, I like Margus Hunt a lot and think someone is going to take him in the 1st round. He plays right down the street so the Cowboys scouts should have a very detailed report on him.

Second, mock etiquette Sir. If you are going to do the mock, take the 5 seconds it takes to include the 6th round pick.

The shame Sir.

I like all of the players you actually selected though. I want a speedback bad but I like Lacy so I wouldn't be upset at all at that pick.

We wont be drafting a RB in the 2nd rd unless we end up with multiple extra picks somehow

Agreed. We shouldn't be wasting a 2nd on an RB anyway. RBs are a dime a dozen nowadays. Make more sense to go TE in the 2nd than RB.

I like Hanna's upside alot as the 2nd TE, they probably will need to spend a later pick or sign a cheaper f/a as a 3rd/blocking TE though. Phillips is useless as a blocker and a receiver IMO and he may not be under contract next year anyway. I do think we miss Bennett's ability as a blocker.

I think this is going to be a defense/OL heavy draft, with the possible exception of drafting a RB sometime on day three, and perhaps drafting a developmental QB at some point, maybe even with a 2nd day pick.

While this is obviously a bad mock, I have a feeling they're going to go hard for a big-name RB.

Making a play for Stephen Jackson or like Darren McFadden.
