Getting To Know: Herb Donaldson
Chris Beesley
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer
Position: Running back
Height/Weight: 5-11, 221
Age: 24
College: Western Illinois
NFL Exp: 1
How Acquired: FA-'09
Hometown: St. Louis, Mo.
Fitting In: Donaldson has three proven running backs ahead of him with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice. Unless one or more of those guys gets injured, Donaldson probably won't make the roster. He is competing with rookie Lonyae Miller for a spot on the practice squad.
So Far: Donaldson has been splitting third-team reps with Miller, and they have both performed at about the same level so far. Preseason games will be the best opportunity for Donaldson to impress. Since Barber, Jones and Choice are all proven players that don't need many reps during the preseason games, the bulk of the carries will go to Donaldson and Miller.
Best Asset: His scouting reports when he entered the NFL draft said that he's a strong runner that is hard to take down. Donaldson said that he enjoys finishing off runs and making sure the "defense doesn't want to hit me come the fourth quarter."
You Should Know: Donaldson was on the Cowboys practice squad last season. He started last year on the Saints practice squad, but was released on Nov. 20. He signed with the Cowboys on Dec. 21.
A Mouthful: "I just try to follow those guys that are ahead of me, because those guys have had success at this level and that's what I'm trying to do."
