The news wasn’t all good for the Bears last night, despite a 40-23 win over the Steelers.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears fear that defensive tackle Henry Melton suffered a torn ACL in the fourth quarter.
Melton’s expected to have an MRI Monday, and the team will likely be looking for some veteran help.
But replacing a talented three-technique tackle such as Melton can’t be done easily with guys off the street. Nose tackle Stephen Paea and Nate Collins will have to become a bigger factor, but it will take adjusting scheme as well. Defensive end Corey Wootton can rush from inside, and filled in there late last night when Melton was hauled off.
“I don’t know what to say,” Paea said. “Injuries will come and we just have to deal with it. It is huge for us that we lose him. I feel like we have to think positive. The next guy has to step up. The season will keep going.”
But not for Melton, it appears.
