EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Last year, during the Cowboys' 13-7 loss to Washington in their season opener, the Cowboys committed a series of mistakes. The final one was a holding call on tackle Alex Barron that negated a touchdown pass that would have tied the score at the end of regulation.

It was the Cowboys' 12th penalty of the night, when they were docked 81 yards for the infractions. It would be a sign of things to come. Last year, the Cowboys collected 109 penalties, the sixth-highest total in the league. Flash forward to Sunday and the Cowboys were assessed only seven penalties that cost them 40 yards in their 27-24 loss to the Jets.

In training camp, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett tried to create a culture of compliance during training camp, when officials were regulars at the team's workouts. It appeared to pay off Sunday when the Cowboys avoided the wrath of the men in stripes.
