Sources: Dave Campo won't return

Archive Secondary coach Dave Campo will not return to the Dallas Cowboys' coaching staff next season, according to sources.
Campo has been on the Cowboys' staff for 18 of his 23 years in the NFL, including serving as the head coach during three 5-11 seasons from 2000-02. He was an original member of Jimmy
Johnson's coaching staff in 1989 and earned three Super Bowl rings with the Cowboys in the 1990s. He returned to Dallas in 2008 after stints as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Campo declined to comment when contacted Monday.
Campo's contract expired at the end of this season, when the Cowboys ranked 23rd in the NFL in passing defense (244.1 yards per game) under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. The Cowboys also ranked 23rd in passing defense in 2010, when former head coach Wade Phillips served as defensive coordinator for the first eight games and was replaced by Paul Pasqualoni after being fired in midseason.
The rest of the Cowboys' defensive coaching staff is expected to remain intact, sources said.
The secondary will be one of the Cowboys' primary needs in the draft and/or free agency despite cornerback Orlando Scandrick and safety Gerald Sensabaugh agreeing to five-year contract extensions since training camp.
The Cowboys could have two new starters in the secondary next season. Strong safety Abram Elam played last season on a one-year contract. Longtime left cornerback Terence Newman, who is due a $6.016 million salary next season, could be released after struggling down the stretch as the Cowboys missed the playoffs for the second straight year
