Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters that rookie quarterback John Skelton will make his third consecutive start on Christmas night against the Dallas Cowboys.
Skelton started the last two games after veteran Derek Anderson was lost because of a concussion. Whisenhunt said that even if Anderson is cleared to play, Skelton will start.
In his starts, Skelton has completed 32-of-70 passes for 342 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. He also lost a fumble in Sunday's loss at Carolina.
Skelton is the third different starting quarterback used by Arizona this seaosn. Given the lack of consistency at the position, Arizona's problems on offense should not come as a surprise. The Cardinals have scored fewer than 14 points in four of the last five games. The lone exception came with an unexpected 43-point eruption during a win over Denver on Dec. 12.
The Cardinals list former Cowboys practice-squadder Richard Bartel as Skelton's backup. Bartel, who played collegiately at SMU and Tarleton State, is with his fifth organization but has yet to appear in a regular-season game.
