IRVING, Texas -- Since the first week of training camp cornerback Mike Jenkins has battled injuries. First a stinger, then a knee in practice before the season opener and then a shoulder suffered against the New York Jets.
He is listed on the injury report with the shoulder injury and twice in the first three contests he has had to leave the field to get the shoulder examined mid-game.
“I’m alright, man,” Jenkins said. “I’ve got a football body. I’m ready.”
Jenkins has impressed coach Jason Garrett and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with his toughness. He is wearing extra padding on his shoulder but that only does so much. While he is searching for his first pick of the season, he leads the Cowboys with four pass deflections.
The bye comes at a good time (next week) for Jenkins and several teammates.
“I’m waiting for the game where I don’t have to come out for four days, like that bye week,” Jenkins said. “That’s the only thing that I’m waiting for. Until then I’m ready for whatever.”
