Garrett going Parcells' route on staff

January, 15, 2011
By Todd Archer

IRVING, Texas -- Jason Garrett said he will continue to call plays and serve as the de facto offensive coordinator at his introductory press conference.

Garrett won’t even have a coordinator in name only, which is what some teams do with offensive-minded head coaches. In New Orleans Pete Carmichael is the offensive coordinator but Sean Payton is the play caller.

But he has named his brother, John, who coaches tight ends, the passing game coordinator. It would seem to follow he will have a running game coordinator as well, which could go to offensive line coach Hudson Houck.

This is the same way Bill Parcells went about his staff in 2005 and ’06 with the Cowboys. Sean Payton (2005) and Todd Haley (2006) were the passing game coordinators and Tony Sparano was the running game coordinator. In Parcells' first two years Maurice Carthon was listed as the offensive coordinator but did not call plays.

Yeah, I don't know what to think of that. Other than I'd rather get rid of Houck.

But again, I trust the brain.

I dont think Garrett would want Houck, or any other coach if he thought the guy was costing him a chance to win games.

I think the last 8 games showed the OL's issues were more talent than lack of coaching. Get a dependable RT and RG and I think alot of the Houck haters will have to sit down and shut up.

Of course, Mick. It looks like he's staying, so here's why that's great.

Anybody who thinks we just need to get a dependable RG and RT and our line is kosher is a fool.

The way I see it, we're 5 players away from having a good line.

Well if it turns out to be, then I will gladly be one of those that will sit down and shut up. But I trust Garrett on this. But here is my thing. Did you watch the Patriots tonight? Did you catch their Oline? When Brady in one of the rare occasions was being flushed and having to scramble, the Oline kept blocking their man. They kept their man in front of them. THEY DIDN'T QUIT. They had no idea where Brady was at, but they remain focused on blocking their man. But look at the Cowboys' Oline, Romo gets flushed out and is back there running for dear life, and you will see Colombo, Davis, and Gurode, getting beat by their man, and then they sit there and WATCH as Romo scrambles. They do not re-engage the defender. Now to me, that is not just a lack of talent but some of that is coaching. They just stop and watch.

Yeah I saw their OL, I saw them get away with probably 10 or 12 blatant holds that our guys never would have.

Your vision is blinded by all that Parcells turd covering your face. You should try washing.

Yes. I'd have to be blind to not see how close we are to a good offensive line.

The most worthless read you'll find on these boards. Don't take my word for it. Take notes. He loves every thing about the team, every year, no matter the circumstances.

Houck, who is neck and neck with Campo as to who coached the worst unit on the team, is going to be the "running game coordinator?"

:Suicide

The good news is he's Houck is 68 years old. Anyone know what the life expectancy for men is, nowadays?

O-line starts with a good center. I dont' think Gurode is that. Dallas needs upgrades at every position on the O-line. This has been the same dance for years now. The O-line is slow and old. Time to revamp. Houck has coached some pretty good O-lines in his day. I say he gets another shot.

Campo? ughh...

And yet you continue to read and reply to them all.

Oh no doubt. Believe me. And then the no-call intentional grounding on Brady. But my point stands on how their Oline goes out of their way to ensure Brady never gets touched.

No way. We just need a dependable RG and RT. Everything else is in place.

I mean, if the refs allow it.

Go Cowboys!!

Pathetic.

The refs are against us!!

Pathetic, cant comprehend shit again.

If you sat there and watched that game and didnt see the numerous EASY holding calls they got away with, your a fool.

Has nothing to do with refs being "against us!!!!" Has to do with certain teams getting favorable officiating.

No teams get favorable officiating. A team may benefit from the calls one game, but nobody has the refs in their back pocket.

It's just that some teams are talented (Patriots), and some aren't (Cowboys).

Mix in a moron like you who can't be objective and you get this it's all the refs nonsense.

Your so naive that its hilarious.

If you think those clods that call these games are all clean as a whistle there's just nothing anyone can do for you. Also, to think that these guys arnt (or at some point were) fans of certain teams and that in some instances those personal bias' dont come into play, its just more foolishness.

Are some calls just missed? Yep, no doubt. Are some bad calls or non calls due to incompetence? Probably. Are some of these the result of corruption (gambling) or personal bias? Absolutely. And the league will do everything it can to never let that get out.
