SAN ANTONIO -- With the first three-hour practice of training camp about to begin inside the Alamodome this morning, the Cowboys reached agreements on four-year deals with two more draft picks: fourth-rounder David Arkin and fifth rounder Josh Thomas, a Cedar Hill grad.

They have signed first-rounder Tyron Smith (four years, $12. 5 million) and seventh rounders Bill Nagy and Shaun Chapas as well. Left without a deal so far are second-round linebacker Bruce Carter, third-round running back DeMarco Murray and sixth-round wide receiver Dwayne Harris.

Arkin, who was the 110th overall pick, started all 44 games at Missouri State, mostly at right guard but moved to left tackle for his senior season. The Cowboys are planning on using him at guard and possibly some at center. Arkin was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference pick as a junior and senior.

Thomas, a Dallas native, who played at Cedar Hill, was the 143rd overall pick. In 34 games at Buffalo he had 27 pass breakups but just two interceptions. He started 22 of his last 24 games at cornerback and developed into a physical corner that had some scouts wondering if he could play safety. He was coached at the East-West Game by Brett Maxie and Dave Campo

Arkin ran 1st team LG this afternoon. Will probably be there for several more days until Kosier can report. After that it will be interesting to see if he moves to C or if they give him some time behind Holland at RG.
