Two night games on NBC - at home vs. the Giants and at Nawlins. We're at Philadelphia for game 2 on a Sunday afternoon, and have the Patriots at home. Right in the middle of all this we host Atlanta.

Of course I realize it's way too early to be thinking about this or making any predictions, but it's safe to say we'll know what we have by the time we roll into Metlife Stadium to take on the Giants again, on Oct 25 after our early bye week. After that one we host Seattle then Philadelphia.

This schedule is kinda scary looking.

With all the changes and player suspensions and the new players getting acclimated to each other, I expect a rough start. I'm just hoping they stay healthy and finish strong.

Anything is possible, but I'm actually more afraid that we start well, players become the toast of the town and get way too full of themselves, and bad things happen toward the end of the year. I think low expectations are one of the best things for this franchise, and played a big part in last year's success.

I mean, already people are predicting great things and acting like we have this winning thing all figured out. Including Steve. So I don't know, a rocky start could even be a benefit in the long run.

Training camp hasn’t started and you guys are worried already. Dooms already thinks the team is going 8-8 this season so a 2-3 prediction isn’t surprising. Let me see how training camp and preseason plays out before i make any predictions.

Tough early start, though I will say the Cowboys make it tough on those other teams, too.

No Hardy, no McClain, no Murray... so what. It's time these young Cowboys took ownership of the team.

Terrance Williams, Demarcus Lawrence, JJ Wilcox, Zach Martin, Anthony Hitchens, Ronald Leary, Mo Claiborne... this is your time. Step up and make it happen.

Joseph Randle, time for you to back up your trash talk. Escobust, get off your ass or get out. Byron Jones and Randall Gregory... show us why they drafted you.

I'm too lazy to look it up but playoff teams and division winners change fairly often from year to year. Nothing would surprise me this year. But we certainly need a good start to increase our chances for the playoffs. If we did ourselves a hole early, it'll be tough to be there in December/January.

Two suspensions. Also... we were without Hardy last year, so I do not see that as much of an impact in not having him.

Hardy wasn't there last year. And we were without Lee, we have him now. Murray... Randal has shown that he is capable of going through those same holes the OL made for Murray.

Escobar has been underutilized. Hardly a bust. Quite the contrary, in the limited time he has played he has greatly produced. Blame Garret for underutilizing him.

Hell YEAH you got ME fired up and ready to go knock some heads now!

Except for your ragging on Pablo. Like Laz said, give that high-upside high-performing kid a break.

And by the way, Emmitt Smith himself recently came out, agreeing with Randle about Murray's "meat left on the bone."

I'm actually leaning more towards the 1-4.

I love Emmitt but he has shown a tendency towards pettiness on occasion.

I wonder if he realizes that his statement implies that our new offensive line is already far better then the one he ran behind.

Follow the logic:

Demarcus left all this meat on the bone and still broke Emmitt's record.

The belief is that the offensive line was responsible for propelling a marginal player to the top of the league.

Emmitt, an elite back, couldn't produce better numbers with his offensive line.

Therefore, this current line is far better than the one that helped win three Super Bowls.j

He DID produce better numbers, with comparable amount of carries in a season.

Both times Emmitt had over 370 carries, his average was better than Murray's and his TD output was much better, and with far less fumbling. Emmitt also had breakaway TD runs each time of 60 yards or better. Murray doesn't touch Emmitt's single season record without all the extra carries he needed to do that (392). Emmitt's 1992 season was only 14 games but that one was his best average per carry at 5.3. He broke a 60+ yard TD that year too. Murray doesn't come anywhere close to any of this. Because he was leaving "meat on the bone?"

This hall of famer Smith's playing record is stellar:

  • NFL record: career rushing yards (18,355)
  • NFL record: career rushing touchdowns (164)
  • NFL record: career 100-yard rushing games (78)
  • Dallas Cowboys all-time leading rusher (17,162)

He has much more room to talk than most. If he says Murray left "meat on the bone," we can disagree with him but really can't fairly assert he's being petty, or that he is saying something about offensive line comparisons. Emmitt walked the walk and can talk the talk whereas Murray is more of a bull-type, more of a Campbell type and isn't nifty. He would go out of his way to seek out contact. It's a style that does leave "meat on the bone" and some of it is intentional, with that style.

Emmitt Smith had the ability to take it to the house...Murray not so much.

Anyways, not sure why anyone would over analyst anything Emmitt says.

Emmitt is a mush brain. He was probably looking at a half eaten turkey leg when he made that statement.

Loved that guy growing up, but he's lucky football panned out for him.

Emmitts career long run was 75 yards.

Murrays was 90.

Emmitt was head and shoulders a better back than Murray, but one thing Emmitt wasn't was a home run threat.

Also, I think we start strong then have a lull lose three out of five or something run in the middle. Probably split the last two. Ultimately see us as a 10 win team at best.

doubtful unless there's a rash of major injuries or just really awful play
