If there is a lockout, does that mean in addition to not being able to sign players, we wont be able to trade players under contract on or before the draft?

Found this tonight- no trades per Shefter

@Adam_Schefter RT @KeithFoster: Any truth to the Chris Cooley Trade rumors? ... No trades till there's a new CBA. Please check back this summer. 34 minutes ago

There cannot be any trading during a lockout.

I think his question was more centered around trading during the draft as far as future picks and players. Now from my understanding owners are being told to proceed as usual but I can only imagine future picks are going to carry a lot less value this year. At the same time, it's hard to conceive a 2 year lock out so you would imagine the draft would run as normal in 2012, the only question will be to as if there is no season how will the draft order be conducted?

If Dallas was to say trade with Jacksonville for a 2012 1st round pick and there was no season would that pick be weighted according to the final 2011 standings?

The only thing I've seen difinitively addressed is signing and releasing players, virtually every article says after the league yr starts if there's no new deal, nobody can be signed or released at that point. But it doesnt address players under contract being TRADED.

I bring it up because there's a couple players we have who we might be able to fetch at least a late middlle or late rd pick for on or around draft time (ie, Roy Williams, Choice)

Okay, I misunderstood you dbair I'm not sure about trading during the draft, just that there can't be any during the lockout.

Not sure if that pertains to the draft itself.

I got some clarification on this.

It's a proceed with caution type deal. The new teams will not be able to negotiate or sign any players to a new contract until the labor agreement is settled. In other words you dont really know what your trading for contractual wise. The CBA expires on March 1st which also happens to be the first day of FA and the new trading period. Any team that trades for a player will not have negotiating rights until the CBA is worked out much like the draft picks. While the teams will have rights to the players they draft no deal can be worked on or signed until a league deal is in place.

Thanks SD, this makes sense.

Wouldnt hurt us in trading someone like Choice or Spencer, but obviously it could be a big hold up in trading someone like RW.

Amen to that. I don't want anothe 82' season on our hands, and the owners go after scab players.

I hate Goodell. I just cant stand the guy. It isnt like this just creeped up on everyone and was a "surprise"

He's been wasting his time on other garbage, when this should have been issue 31 to resolve.

He's the worst commissioner in NFL history.
