Today's Free Agent Watch features Oakland safety Michael Huff, who played under Rob Ryan from 2006-08. Another former Ryan safety, Cleveland's Abram Elam, is another intriguing option as a potential unrestricted free agent. (As a five-year veteran, it's unknown if the Browns tendered him a restricted offer as a contingency.)
The Cowboys know Elam pretty well. They signed him as a rookie free agent in 2006 and he played in 15 games that season, primarily on special teams.
They initially kept him on the 53-man roster in 2007, going heavy at safety because of Elam's special teams prowess. But dangerously thin at linebacker, they cut Elam a day later to claim linebacker Justin Rogers off waivers.
Elam quickly caught on with the Jets that year, and now he's a two-year starter with the Browns. The Cowboys would like to have that move back.
