Alex Albright making a name for himself

SAN ANTONIO -- The Cowboys have had a few undrafted players open some eyes early in training camp, like running back Phillip Tanner and wide receiver Raymond Radway, but on defense outside linebacker Alex Albright has been a surprise.

He is putting himself in the mix for a roster spot and will get a chance to impress Thursday vs. Denver.

While many fans wanted the Cowboys to sign Boston College’s Mark Herzlich when the lockout was settled, Dallas wanted to convert Albright from defensive end to outside linebacker.

“That’s a wonderful story,” defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said of Herzlich’s battle back from cancer, “and I like that young man over there, but I like 47 a whole lot better.”

Rarely has a practice gone by in which Albright has not made a play either with a sack, tipping a pass or being stout against the run.

“It’s a pretty good learning curve going from defensive end to outside linebacker but I’m excited about the challenge,” Albright said. “The way Coach Ryan and Coach [Eberflus] have really been helping me along with DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer, it’s been a good experience so far.”

I hope this guy works out. I like UFDAs. Spencer is mediocre pass rusher, but is stout agaisnt the run and in coverage. Butler is a better pass rusher than Spencer, but seems to be a situational guy. Not as good as Spencer agaisnt the run or in coverage. Brandon Williams, I'm not sure of. But hopefully this Albright guy can be an all around player like Ware.

I don't understand the hype with this kid. Every report on him seems to mention how inconsistant he is.
I tried to youtube him and nothing came up lol but he was a crazy athlete in highshcool with track and field i guess he just started to play football at Abilene Christian University that probly explains the inconsistency with him.

clarence hill just said radway was the best UDFA rookie here. Said he has been watching him all camp and he is better than dwayne harris. Then he went on to call him haywood radney.

He really is locked down on this camp that clarence hill.
