Jerry Jones understands the criticism and can take heat as GM; has no interest in Bill Polian Owner Jerry Jones respects former Colts general manage Bill Polian, who was fired on Monday. But he has no interest in bringing him in to the Cowboys front office. He said the job of general manager is his alone and it works best for the Cowboys with him as involved as he as the owner. “The thing you’ve got to realize is that when you have an owner that is full time as the owner, then you create a situation where you have as much turnover at GM as you do at coaching level,” Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM. “And I think that just deters from the mix.” Jones said he has been doing things the same way since he bought the team in 1989. But he understands why the questions about his ability as a football guy come up when the Cowboys are not winning. “The facts are that I’ve spent 22 years doing this exactly the same way,” Jones said. “I’ve made a lot of changes from year to year as time goes along, but frankly, I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don’t have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions, period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that’s me.”

I think Jerry should bring Bill Polian in as an consultant. I mentioned this yesterday.

We know he won't step down as GM, but at least bring in some help or someone to offer advice. He needs it.

Are you guys kidding? Polian is a bigger moron than Jerry is even when it comes to football moves. What the fuck has he ever done in Indy to make anyone think he's a capable GM?

Having his team in the Super Bowl a couple times in the last handful of years would be my guess.

He has had horrible drafts the last 5 years, I will pass. Not to mention a terrible defensive personal.

Yeah, but to say he's a bigger moron than Jerry?

C'mon, that's ridiculous. He's had more good drafts than bad ones.

And he's won a Super Bowl lately. Jerry? Still trying to.

Oh, he also was the GM of the Bills when they appeared in 4 straight Super Bowls.

Yeah, Poilan sucks alright.

Assclown of the board remains Assclown of the board
. Polian would draft Dwight Freeney in the 1st round amid much criticism that Freeney was too small to play defensive end and was a reach for the 11th overall pick. Freeney would go on to be selected to 5 Pro Bowls following the 2003, 2004, and 2005, 2008, and 2009 seasons.

The 2003 draft produced 2 late round picks who would become impact players within the Colts defense. Fifth-round pick Robert Mathis has become one of the best pass rushing defensive ends in the AFC and was selected for the 2008 and 2010 Pro Bowls, and sixth-round pick Cato June (who played safety in college) would become a Pro Bowl linebacker.

In the 2004 draft, Polian selected strong safety Bob Sanders early in the 2nd round after trading out of the first. Sanders probably would have been a higher pick in the draft, but he had suffered a foot injury which would require surgery and most other teams did not want that liability. Sanders would only play in 5 games his rookie season, but his second (and first full) season would prove why Polian drafted him as Sanders would go on to the Pro Bowl, and, in his fourth season, become the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Polian is well regarded among the NFL for his draft acumen. His most notable selection, of course, is Peyton Manning over Ryan Leaf in the 1998 NFL Draft. Peyton Manning has won 4 MVP awards, more than any other player in League History, as well as one Super Bowl, whereas Leaf has been regarded as one of the biggest draft busts in NFL and professional sports history.[2][3] Most scouts already had concluded that Manning was the more "NFL-ready" quarterback.

[edit]Free agency
Despite his penchant for quality drafts, the key to the Colts success may come from Polian's ability to sign free agents, specifically undrafted rookie free agents who would become key contributors. Under Polian's watch, the Colts have signed undrafted or waived rookies such as Jeff Saturday, Dominic Rhodes, Terrence Wilkins, Raheem Brock, James Mungro, Gary Brackett, Ben Utecht, Ryan Lilja, and Melvin Bullitt. Polian also signed Nick Harper and Mike Vanderjagt as free agents from the Canadian Football League.

If that team didn't have Peyton Manning.. they'd have gone nowhere the past decade. Polian is awful. Saying he drafted Peyton Manning proves he's a good GM shows how clueless some really are. Jerry signed Tony Romo as an undrafted free agent. Guess that makes Jerry a great GM too, right?

Polian sucks.. and as for the OP, suck my balls bitch.

Jerry Jones once hired Jimmy Johnson

Every blind squirrel finds a nut eventually.

Polian is one of the most overrated football people ever IMO.

Note to you, 2003 and 2004 were almost a decade ago.

Our drafting and free agency periods look better than Polians since 2003.
