Wow!

Smith not being ready by opening day.

I hadn't considered that.

It that were the case would you keep Colombo around (ouch!) or hope that Sam Young can start (ouch!)?

If your an OL drafted in the first round especially in the top 10 there is no waiting game. It's now or never. He's not a QB that may need a couple of years to develop. He was drafted with every intention of replacing Colombo and someday soon migrating over to the left side. He's not sitting the bench and if he does we have deeper issues than I thought with our assessment of the draft/player personnel.

Agreed but Tyron is a special case. 20 years old. Played at 285lbs in college. Happens to enter the NFL during the lockout and misses all OTAs, mini camps and maybe some of training camp. Might not even get a full slate of preseason games.

If there ever was a top 10 tackle who needed a year it would be Tyron Smith.

And I'm fine with that if that's the case. You won't read me whining about a wasted pick. The draft's about long term not instant impact.
