His point about the no 1st rd pick QB's since Aikman is also lacking in some context.
The fact is there was no way they were going to spend a 1st rd pick in the 90's on a QB because they had Aikman (they actually did though, they forfeited the 1st overall pick in 1990 for taking Walsh in the 89 Supplemental Draft).
After Aikman had to retire, they did spend a 2nd rd pick on a QB in 2001 (albeit, a terrible one).
2000 and 2001 they didn't have a 1st rd pick anyway.
2002, nobody available worth drafting
2003, they passed on Byron Leftwich to take Terrance Newman. Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman went later in 1st.
2004, they traded out of 1st rd and Bills picked JP Losman, no other QB went in 1st after
2005, the single biggest miss, Parcells took Marcus Spears instead of Aaron Rodgers (or Jason Campbell, who went right after)
2006- nobody available worth taking
2007- nobody available worth taking
2008- At this point they felt like they had their guy in Romo but in 08, 09, 10, 11 nobody worth anything was available for us anyway. In 2012 they moved up for Morris Claiborne and passed on Ryan Tannehill. Again, Romo still solid. 2013 nobody. 2014 they famously passed on Johnny Manziel for Zack Martin. Teddy Bridgewater went later in 1st. 2015 nobody available. 2016 there was all sorts of buzz that we might try to get Carson Wentz but he went 2nd overall and we took Zeke at 4. They attempted to trade back into the 1st to get Paxton Lynch but Jones was overruled (fortunately). They did get Dak Prescott that yr and he ended up being a steal at the time.
He had a great rookie yr and the pressure to get a QB early was obviously less. 2017 there was nobody available. in 2018 they picked LVE and the Ravens ended up drafting Lamar Jackson with the final pick of the 1st rd. They didnt have a 1st in 2019 but nobody was available where we were picking anyway. In 2020 we took CeeDee and Jordan Love went several picks later, maybe you could have made the argument that Love would have had some value but he isnt what I would consider a true upper echelon QB either. 2021 we took Micah Parsons and had just signed Prescott to a mega extension, Mac Jones went after Parsons and then nobody else of significance. 2022 we took Tyler Smith, nobody at QB was available worth a 1st, 2023 we took Mazi late in 1st, Will Levis went early in 2nd, we took Guyton in late 1st last yr and nobody else was picked anywhere near that at QB.
So for the most part, no great or even truly promising franchise QB's have ever been available that we passed on other than the obvious miss by Parcells with Aaron Rodgers. Jackson is obviously better than Prescott, but even Jackson at the time was considered a player with a lot of holes and we had Prescott under a mega contract.
I think the 1st rd QB drought ends in 2026 however.
