In actuality Kosier is a free agent and if they resign him, well...

I don't see the Cowboys signing a FA OT or center. I think those two positions will be filled via the draft.

Jerry has to stop this shit with stop gap players at the offensive line and start biting the bullet and draft replacements.

This is why he get's a bad rap as our GM.

Agreed.

But you can't fix all the positions through the draft.

Not enough picks and after the first couple of rounds, expecting a starter to be drafted is a real reach.

Then you have some positions like safety that are very thin and are not likely to be solved by the draft no matter what round you pull the prospect from.

Well, no one said it would be fixed in a year, but it would be a good start.

Of course, but in the mean time, at least one free agent will need to be signed for the offensive line.

Two, if Doug Free is declared an unrestricted FA.

It's a "real reach" to expect to draft some future starters along the OL after round 2?

lol.....wait what?

Well that and his total inability to evaluate talent, respect his coaches, basically everything a GM needs to do.

I meant immediate starters... Like from day 1, season 1.

The offensive line immediately needs 1 tackle and 1 guard as starters.

Oh, that's right. You draft players for immediate production. I forgot.

Hey, ya know why we don't have any players along the OL? Because we've been busy drafting players for immediate production every year.

Draft for need was so 2000s. It's about immediate production in the 10s.

You're obviously not taking into consideration the direction the thread was going.

I was responding to Cr122's comment about not participating in free agency but instead using the draft to solve the problem for the 2011 season.

I agree that the draft needs to be the prime method of rebuilding the line for the future, but for 2011, it's not reasonable to expect two brand new starters from the upcoming draft. Free agency will have to be tapped or you'll have an offensive line of Free, Holland, Gurode, Davis and Young.

Don't know what the draft holds but if FA ever becomes a reality this year and we choose to ignore OL for the umpteenth time on draft day put me down for a Tyson Clabo fan should we go shopping.

You can get one, and even two, starters through the draft. Especially when you have no talent along the entire line like Dallas. There are at least 10 Ts in this class that could walk into Valley Ranch tomorrow and immediately be better than Colombo and the other bum Young. It's probably more like 15.

An interior player to replace Kosier of Davis isn't impossible to find in rounds 3 or 4. Gs don't usually even start coming off the board until the 2nd. There certainly won't be more than one G gone by that point this year. Tell the Raiders they can't find an immediate starter in the mid rounds. Jared Veldheer played well all season last year. And at LT.

The Cowboys have created this illusion that young OL can't play in the league. That's just not the case anymore.

But I don't really care about that. Unlike the Owner/GM, 2011 means nothing to me when we're drafting players. We're not gonna fix the line in a year. It's going to take several. For once, we have to actually have a long term plan in place. Like a well run team with qualified people in the front office.

Good luck with that.

I can see one starter from the draft.

Two immediate starters is a reach. I think Kosier is resigned for another year or two.

I don't agree with that at all.

You could say it's a reach that our coaching staff would play two rookies, but to say we couldn't upgrade from two of our present starters in the draft is wrong.

The mid rounds are a breeding ground for starting offensive linemen, Mike.
