DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) – It’s never too early to look at what is under the Christmas tree for Cowboys fans right? As we continue to debate the subject of winning and losing games the rest of the way, consider this: Here are the Cowboys 2011 opponents should they remain locked in last place in the NFC East this season.
In addition to the regular NFC East games, the Cowboys get the NFC West and the AFC East next year, plus the other two last place teams in the NFC North and South. Here is the breakdown:
Home: Giants, Eagles, Redskins, Rams, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Bills and either the Panthers or Lions
Away: Giants, Eagles, Redskins, Seahawks, 49ers, Patriots, Jets and either the Panthers or Lions
The Cowboys will host either the Bills or the Dolphins on Thanksgiving since the Lions get an NFC opponent next year as part of the CBS/Fox flip-flop each year. The Cowboys will, of course, be on CBS in 2011 since they were on Fox this season.
Since the league went on its rotation system, the Cowboys are locked in to those teams based on the current rotation of divisional opponents. That is a far cry from the 2010 schedule which featured the division winner format of playing the first place teams in your conference and the AFC South. Now if the league goes to an 18 game schedule, the added two games might be the two third place finishers within your conference. But hey, this looks pretty good right now.
