Who are the leaders on this team, next year and going forward?
Offensively . . . I see two: Romo and Bryant.
Tony Romo is a leader. I don't buy the media nonsense that he's not a leader because he wears his hat backwards, or he golfs too much, etc. The guy works as hard (if not harder) than anyone else on our team. And if you ever seen a segment where he's been mic'd up, you'd be impressed.
Dez Bryant I might be going on a limb with. I think he's got that Irvin'esque work ethic and passion. I love that he's taken the stance to boycot the media this year. I hope that continues.
The thing is, in order for him to truly be a leader, he needs to be an integral part of the offense. Not splitting time with anyone. He needs to be on the field every time the offensive set calls for a receiver. And because of this, I'm in favor of releasing Roy Williams - and I've been a RW11 fan since we acquired him.
I don't like the idea of releasing him now that he's finally playing to his potential, but I think it's essential for the growth of the team.
Besides, you don't need three blue-chip receivers on an offense.
Unfortunately, those are the only two who come to mind as offensive leaders. And it's questionable as to whether or not Dez would/will step up in that role next year.
Defensively . . . I don't see anyone.
Keith Brooking - you've been a warrior. You're a natural leader, and I wish you would've spent more time here. But you're at the end of the road.
I do think Sean Lee will emerge as a leader, eventually. But not likely in 2011.
Anyone else? Eh.
Are there leaders on this team I'm missing? Anyone see anyone who will step up?
Is leadership, from a player perspective, overrated?
