If we end up with a top 10 selection, should we take a QB?

I don't think Romo is the reason were losing.

But I do think he's getting older, and I think his best years/best chance to win (2007/2009) are past. And we have no young QB prospects.

You don't hope to be picking in the top 10 often, but here we find ourselves potentially doing just that.

So if we do end up there, would you consider selecting a young QB to groom for the future?

We've seen how inept the team is at finding a QB on their own. Carter. Hutchinson. Henson. Banks. Testeverde. Bledsoe.

It's not like talented QB's hit the market to where Jerry could pay for one. And there's always a risk of trading multiple draft picks for a back up who just looks successful in limited time in another teams system. Kevin Kolb, anyone?

What are your thoughts...

We've got so many things to fix on this team, grooming a replacement for Romo isn't a luxury we can afford. Plus, if you draft a QB top 10, he's not being brought in for grooming.

Okay, draft a QB top 10, then trade Romo to the highest bidder?

You don't think San Fran would give up their mid-20's pick (and maybe more) for Romo?

Take a QB prospect in the first. Let him and Kyle Orton have a QB competition in camp. Then use the pick from the 9ers or whomever and take the best available offensive lineman (Barrett Jones or Chance Warmack ougth to both be there) in the bottom half of the first.

Tyler Wilson, Tyler Bray, Geno Smith, Aaron Murray, Matt Barkley.

All are potential first round picks. Im likely missing a guy or two.

I think Bray or Wilson are the best of the bunch, as far as pro prospects.

Romo's got another 5 years or so easy... barring some catastrophic injury.

I'm not too sold on the QBs this year. We can wait. Use our high picks to solidify both lines.

You'd think so because he's only 32, but I really only think he has maybe 3 left. The pounding he takes year in and year out is ridiculous.

It even looks like his mobility is diminished this year.

I mean, seriously, the guy takes a pounding like David Carr back with the Texans. He's getting hit virtually every drop back.

It's a luxury to have our QB of the future on our roster but that 1st round pick could solve one of our many weak spots (Guard, Center, Pass rusher, Safety) that can help us contend in 2013.

Yes, I think we have to at least entertain the thought. But it all depends on what is there. Bray is my favorite of the bunch.

We've been saying that for years.

But, even if that's true... think of it like this... if we contend next year, we're drafting in the 20's.

If we contend the next few years, we'll continually be drafting in the 20's.

If you believe we can contend over the next few years, then this could be the only time we end up with a top 10 selection over the next few years.

Meaning when Romo retires, we won't have a blue chip prospect to take over. Meaning it's back to Jerry trying to find his replacement via alternative means.

3rd or 4th round? Sure. Take a prospect like Matt Schaub, Ryan Mallet, Kirk Cousins, etc and let him develop now behind Romo, be ready to go in 3 years.

Especially since we lose our f'ing mind in the 4th round and waste picks anyway.

I'm just saying, I don't trust our team to find a prospect to develop. We tried that with Stephen McGee, and literally so zero improvement from rookie year to third year.

If a blue chip talent at that position falls to us, then I think we ought to pull the trigger.

Probably, but I don't think that'll happen. This QB class seems kind of thin to me. Or just weak in terms of finding a franchise QB.

Besides, we have a bad enough schedule that we'll pick outside the top 10.

Drafting a quarterback who was benched in his senior year was a flawed theory from the get go. Yes, he was injured, but when he came back and was healthy he sucked and lost his job to sophomore Jerrod Johnson.

The biggest problem is Jerry wanting to outsmart everyone IMO and he gets cute on draft day. He doesn't just want to add players to the roster who can help. He wants to find guys no one else is talking about so people will be in awe of him.
