only coach in NFL history to take four squads to the tournament.

only.

ONLY.

in NFL history.

ONLY.

How many coaches that are thought to be among the best have coached more than 1 or 2 teams? I'd bet if Bill Walsh, Tom Landry, Chuck Knoll, etc... had coached that many different teams, Parcells wouldn't be the only. ONLY. in NFL history.

Usually, a coach is thought of as shitty if he bounces around to more than 2-3 different clubs. Because if he was winning, he wouldn't have to move to that many different clubs.

Here's a fun fact for you. Wade Phillips has taken three different clubs to the playoffs. Denver, Buffalo, and Dallas. And has a .581 career winning percentage. Wade. Fucking. Phillips. Going to the playoffs everywhere he's had a HC job. Only 1 less than the immortal Bill Parcells. Taking 4 different teams to the playoffs doesn't sound so impressive when compared to that.

when you throw in that he took two of the teams to the superbowl, the jets the conference championship it is more impressive.

also for fun throw in that parcells jets teams kicked wade phillps bills teams ass thats interesting too. In fact the jets waltzed into orchard park in 98 and took the division right from wade phillips and doug flutie. And they did it by making two huge plays on wades defense.

by the way that was one of the loudest games I have ever been to.

All with Bill Belichick on his staff.

I give Parcells alot of credit for the two super bowls he won in NY, those were really good teams. Winning the super bowl in 1990 with Jeff Hostetler and beating the Niners on the road and then a great Bills team was great.

But he was never the same coach after that. As great as those two super bowl teams were, the Giants teams following those seasons didnt even make the playoffs.

The fact that all his postseason success was with Bill belichick on his staff, and that belichick went onto to postseason success of his own w/o Parcells is telling.

He went onto postseason success without parcells in person in the organization.

Yet all of the staff, most of the core of the defense and some offensive players and others like a guy named scott pioli were guys brought into the league or the jets by parcells years before. Those first two superbowls in new england had parcells handprints all over it, its not even debatable.

They had all been taught the nfl by parcells.

Parcells in Dallas had only maurice carthon that he knew, so along with coaching the players, fixing the front office he had to coach the coaches what he wanted done. Its a tremendous task.

In new england and with the jets he had immediate turnarounds with big success because he already has his staff in place who knew what they were doing, he had a hand in the front offices..........

In Dallas he was forced to be everything to everyone for a long stretch.

I dont think he is the greatest coach of all time or anything but I think he is in the conversation and on short list of great ones and so is belichick.

and as far as the giants missing the playoffs, they were a veteran team that had a qb controversy and a new group of coaches, belichick went to cleveland and took some giants veterans and parcells had a heart issue and had to get healthy.

Dan reeves had them right back in it by 93.

I like how theebs has a laundry list to back up his argument while Midwat just waves around the fact that Belichick was on his staff. Like there weren't other coaches apart from him, and their charges doing their part in those runs.

Plus there is the little fact that Parcells never gave a coach free-reign to do anything while he was the HC. Everything was done his way and under his direction. I think the thing that sticks out the most is that Belichick is a great coach who took Parcells' philosophy on coaching and ran with it. Not that he was the sole reason for all Parcells' success.

Yes, that seems most logical.

I figured it out! Belichick snuck in the middle of the night when every one was gone and replaced Parcells' game-plans with his own.

Yeah, that's not at all true.

Belichicks defensive gameplan to beat the Bills in the SB is in the Hall of Fame.

Parcells scoffed at it initially.

Parcells also scoffed at Belichicks idea to play primarily the nickle defense to stop Barry Sanders. It worked.

And then there's the incident when they were on the Jets. Belichick called a play, Parcells disagreed with it. It lead to a sack. Parcells lambasted him on the headphones where the entire coaching staff could here. Paraphrasing, Parcells said something like "BFD, so it worked. You're some kinda of genius, alright. But you'll never make it as a head coach."

Never ceases to amaze me that discussing Parcells is like discussing religion or politics.

Only people get more heated.

Also that quote totally sounds natural. All it needs Is a sleeping bellicheck with parcells floating around him. "you're never gonna make it"

According to NFL Network Bill Parcells has informed the Saints he will not coach the team in Sean Payton's absence.

[h=2]La Confora - Parcells will stay retired[/h]
Bill Parcells has informed the New Orleans Saints the he will not replace suspended coach Sean Payton and is staying retired, according to a league source.

The Saints will now look to hire from within the organization. By promoting an assistant on the team, the Saints will not have to interview a minority candidate in accordance with the league's Rooney Rule.

Assistant head coach Joe Vitt, who has been suspended for the first six games of the upcomnig season, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo are among the interal candidates who could fill in for Payton.

On Monday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell upheld Payton's suspension for the 2012 season along with an eight-game suspension for general manager Mickey Loomis, and Vitt's six-game suspension.

Payton and Parcells spoke in March about a possible role with the Saints for the retired coach. Parcells said he felt "an obligation" to assist Payton, but he remained coy about if he'd fill in for his longtime friend.

Payton's season-long suspension without pay will begin April 16. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told NFL Network's Albert Breer that Payton "cannot be involved in any coaching activities, he can't be at the facility, or with the team at games."
